Proprietors Mr & Mrs Quentin RUSSELL

Thank you for choosing a holiday at the Chateau du Perron and we look forward to welcoming you and wish you a safe journey here. The information that follows will allow you to prepare for your stay, and is designed to give you extra information in order protect both you the visitor and ourselves from unwanted exra costs, injury, and any damage to property.

CHATEAU

The chateau was built between 1860 and 1864 from stone transported from another chateau nearby ( on the marais ) for the de Foucauld family. The current owners are only the third family to have ownership although of course it was occupied during WW2 and used as a hospital ( Croix Rouge ). It has parquet floors throughout, comprises 14 bedrooms ( 7 ensuite ), 5 reception rooms, 2 kitchens, boiler and drying room ( Please note - 2 rooms ( 5 & 12 ) are not normally available. For larger groups it is possible by arrangement to have these prepared).

ARRIVAL

As you can appreciate, a house of this size takes a great deal of preparation for the arrival of guests and this has to be achieved between 10 am, the time that the previous guests leave, and 4 pm on the day of your arrival. Therefore, in order that the house can be thoroughly prepared for your stay, you are requested not to arrive before 4pm on your arrival day, unless by express arrangement, and to leave by 10am on your day of departure. Please always telephone to inform us of your estimated time of arrival and if you are running late, so that we can rearrange timetables.

OUTSIDE AREAS

Please do not drive on the grass avenues, lawns and particularly lawn edges, nor ride bicycles on grass. Please respect the tranquillity of the house and grounds and refrain from playing loud music etc. outside and especially after dark.

There are about 90 acres of land surrounding the property situated in the middle of two long avenues giving total seclusion. There is also a cottage in the grounds which is often separately let but does not infringe the privacy of the chateau.

There are lovely walks in the woods and the hinterland is good for walking or bicycling. There is 2 acre lake by the chateau and it is possible to use the boat on the lake, or fish for the carp by notification to the proprietors, but swimming in the lake is forbidden.

Please keep out of all other buildings and ensure that all members of your party, particularly children, keep away from any machinery. The property being large, there are is always continual maintenence, so beware of any machinery attended or unattended.

GAMES KIT

On site there are various sports items available - please make use of them but please notify us of all breakages or losses. The items must be replaced or paid for ready for the next visitors. If you wish to play croquet, please return the set after use and do not use it if there is dew on the ground or during wet weather. There is a pool table and football table for your pleasure and these take 1 euro coins.

SANITATION

The drainage is by septic tank and you must be careful not to put down the sinks and lavatories unsuitable items. There are strict rules for the use of the 8 electric WC’s and clear instructions are pinned up in each bathroom. Thus, cooking oils, sanitary towels, paper towels, baby wipes etc. must be disposed of elsewhere in bins provided.

REFUSE

The refuse collection is usually on Monday morning only. All rubbish must be put in properly sealed plastic bags (please note that these are not provided ) and placed in the bins provided. Please do not leave unprotected bags outside overnight as the night life will have their way. All glass - bottles, breakages etc. - must be kept separate and disposed of by you in the containers provided in all supermarkets and communes nearby.

CLEANING ON DEPARTURE

We kindly request that you leave the house clean and tidy, and we also ask you to :-

Take the sheets and pillow cases off ( leaving the undersheet protection ) and leave in the sacks provided, downstairs in the vestibule.

Take all towels and leave in the vestibule by the front door.

Ensure that all rooms and staircases have been vacuumed.

Leave the kitchens clean, surfaces wiped and all ovens properly cleaned. If you have used the barbeque, please ensure it is cleaned properly afterwards.

Empty the dishwashers.

All rubbish outside in the dustbins ready for collection. All bottles to be taken to the bottle bank.

Kindly replace broken items and notify us as well - if it happens to be a window, please discuss. Please notify us of any malfunctioning items.

SMOKING

There are smoke alarms in all public places which are very sensitive ! They will tolerate smoking on the ground floor only and we ask you to restrict smoking to here only. Please also do not leave cigarette ends on the gravel outside or extinguish by treading on them !

LINEN

Duvets, duvet covers and bottom sheets, towels and pillowcases are provided for all beds on request ( 10 euros/person ) and we will fit them for you providing you have worked out the rooming arrangement. If you wish to supply your own bedding, please ensure that they are fitted properly - unprotected duvets or pillows will be sent for dry cleaning at your expense. The rooming list attached indicates the type of bed ( double or single ). Please bring your own swimming towels and do not use towels or bedding provided by us for use outside. We provide bath mats and handtowels for your use in shared facilities.

FURNITURE & FLOORS

Please do not put hot or wet items ( e.g. cups, wine or beer bottles or glasses ) on polished surfaces like tables or any of the floors as they leave marks which are very hard to remove. Mats are provided for all furniture. If you spill red wine ( or beetroot juice etc. ) on the parquet floor, please immediately wipe it up - the stains are virtually impossible to eradicate. All spillages create marks which have to be manually cleaned, so do please ensure that these are wiped up with dry towels or cloths as soon as they occur - excess cleaning as a result will be deducted from the deposit. Damp/wet feet on floors to be avoided !

CLEANING PRODUCTS ETC.

We provide a “starter “ pack for all things need in a house of this size and we request that you replace what you use, so that the next people do not go short ( typical such items are loo paper, washing up machine tablets, surface cleaner spray, paper kitchen towel, washing up liquid, bin bags etc. ).

FOOD DISPOSAL ON DEPARTURE

If you have any items of unused food or food products, tins, frozen or perishable you wish to leave behind for the incoming guests we will be happy to deal with them for you - if not, please take them with you.

Please do not bin them as excess rubbish, particularly perishable, kept until the collection day is best kept to a minimum - we will be pleased if you can respect this request.

ELECTRICITY & FUEL OIL

The meter readings for the above services are taken at the start and end of your stay and must be settled in euros ( cash ) before departure.

BED LINEN, TOWELS Etc.

If you have opted to use these and they have not been prepaid, the amount must be settled before departure in euros as above.
